Battle of Tulsatown, 13 Dec. 40,013. Epic Armageddon

 

Well we manage another epicA game today, it ended up begin 6000 points per side. So a few words from the one of the tyranids players

   Greg, Trent, and Britt had a 6000 point Epic Armageddon battle today among the shattered buildings and cratered surface of Tulsatown. Greg commanded the Eldar while Trent commanded the right flank of the Tyranid forces and had overall command while I led the left flank. The Tyranid forces were off to an early rush forward. Obviously the thought of so much food in front of them, even with much of it still in their shells, was enough to drive the gluttonous insects quickly toward their lunch!  Sadly for the Tyranids, the Eldar were just about all on skimmers and were well armed with long range weaponry compared to the Tyranids mainly close combat arms. This should have proved fatal.

   On Trent’s right flank, both sides were locked in a savage contest, with heavy losses to both sides. On the left would be fought the decisive action of the battle. Large numbers on Eldar Bikes in 3 formations moved up and took position behind their Scouts. The Eldar sprang their trap, and the 3 Bike and one Scout units all attacked in a Firefight together against the mainly close combat only Tyranids. It should have been a walkover for the Eldar but a combination of poor luck at shooting, and few saves by the Eldar coupled with the Tyranids losing mainly units that didn’t count as losses resulted in a Bug victory that pretty much decided both the flank and the battle in the Tyranids favour. Yea, Greg was unlucky as by all rights he should have won that.

The Tyranids enjoyed their munchies, and the Eldar withdrew to fight another day. Next time they’ll be bringing more artillery! Thanks for a great game Greg & Trent. Most enjoyable. I’m very much looking forward to next Friday’s Epic game as well as Tuesday’s Merchants & Marauders.

TURN ONE

  • Eldar won turn
  • Eldar move jetbike unit up on left flank.
  • Eldar double move 3 Scorpion up, to find they are just out of range.
  • Tyranids then fire their tomato chucker’s at jetbike unit they moved before, killing two.
  • Tyranids then double move a BRUTE SWARM and shot the scorpions, giving it a blast marker….
  • Eldar move SWORDS OF VAUL TROUPE up to a objective marker…..
  • Eldar try and fire the night spinners and fail…….
  • Tyranids move BIG BRUTE SWARM up.
  • Eldar move SWORDS OF VAUL TROUPE
  • Tyranids march move a NORMAL ASSAULT SWARM up to be in front of the woods were the Eldar scouts are.
  • Eldar double move REVENANT TITANS into city
  • Tyranids double move the DOMINATRIX SWARM up into the city and shot the REVENANT TITANS, giving them a couple of blast markers.
  • Eldar double move REVENANT TITANS into city to out flank the DOMINATRIX SWARM and shoot, giving the unit a few blast markers for it…….
  • Tyranids jump on the chance given by the second REVENANT TITANS unit and engage it in close combat, winning the round with out to much trouble. So REVENANT TITANS unit  is broken and flees back to its deployment zone……
  • Eldar then double move the second Scorpion unit and they target the DOMINATRIX SWARM, killing one and almost getting another.
  • Rest of the turn was units moving into position for turn two……
  • All units that were broken rallied and blast markers were remove too……

TURN TWO

  • Eldar won turn
  • The big play is begun, Eldar move three units in for fire fight with the BIG ASSAULT SWARM and called in the intermingled rule and bought in a normal swam, this then brought in the Eldar scout unit. after rolling for hits etc, the Eldar lost. I manage to do 18 kills on the unit in question, but they counted for nothing, the big down was that I had 11 hits against me and mange to only save one. so four units broken….But if i had won it would have meant that entire flank was open and I would have had free movement…….worth the risk……..
  • Eldar keep turn and shoot the second Scorpion unit at the DOMINATRIX SWARM, killing another and adding more blast markers, so they move back out the city to support the right flank……
  • Eldar keep the turn again and then fire the REVENANT TITANS at the DOMINATRIX SWARM, killing all of the Hierodule and getting a hit or two on the DOMINATRIX, but this breaks the unit and sends it back into its deployment zone……
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with their BRUTE SWARM on the Scorpion unit on the left flank, so to make a long story short they won the combat and Eldar are broken and flee back to the deployment zone….
  • Tyranids keep turn and then do a engage action with the HARASSMENT SWARN on the jetbike unit on the left flank and intermingled was called. Again terrible saves by the Eldar jetbikes, mange only to save 1. So Eldar lose combat again….
  • Eldar move falcons and shot the BRUTE SWARM , killing four the creatures.
  • Eldar keep turn and engage with a jetbike unit on the BRUTE SWARM and a fire fight happens, short story Eldar won the combat, about time too…..Eldar use their move to get nearer to objective marker…..and Tyranids move back to their deployment zone….
  • Tyranids double move the BIG BRUTE SWARM into the city to shot the REVENANT TITANS, putting a blast marker on them…..
  • Eldar fire up the night spinners and target the normal swam in the woods on the right flank, giving them a blast marker……
  • Eldar try and keep turn and move the falcon's but roll a one, so the falcon’s shoot BIG BRUTE SWARM, killing one of the AV’s
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with a normal swam and assault a jetbike unit near the objective, so by the end the Eldar had lost…..so the jetbike unit flees back to its deployment zone…..
  • Eldar bring on their flyers and they target the DOMINATRIX SWARM that's is broken in the deployment zone, killing it out right
  • Tyranids then try and active the BIG ASSAULT SWARM and fail to do so, so they make a normal move….
  • Eldar move up the lone REVENANT and shoot the GENESTEALER SWARM, killing one of the bases.
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with the GENESTEALER SWARM on the lone REVENANT, short story they win……but they break due to blast markers
  • Tyranids then try active the normal swam in the forest and failed and so they move up normally.
  • So after the rally phase saw the Eldar right flank fail to rally, they gave the game to the Tyranids, they still had 3 teleporting units they had not brought in yet and the Eldar loses were high………
