Well it Friday again and we manage another Epic game. This time it was 5000 points per side, Knights World 2(new knights list) V’s Steel legion…Oh a few words from the steel legion commnader….
Greg & I (Britt) had another fun game of Epic Armageddon today. This time Greg fielded his Knight army against an IG Steel Legion army I commanded. It was a very interesting engagement that went for 3 turns and 3 hours of the usual chaos & calamity, laughter & broken plans that make up a typical game between us. I also think we exceeded by far the number on 1’s rolled for just about everything, with poor dice luck for both sides.
The Knight army is very powerful as would be expected, with most figures taking 2 hits and mega-weapons aplenty. I’ll leave Greg to put up the blow-by-blow account in his pictorial AAR, but in a nutshell, it was just a very hard fought out game. Both sides took heavy casualties and made little penetration of the other side of the board. The Castilians were especially powerful, and I should have made a greater effort to take them out early. I also should have artillery bombarded the bike units more. They were pure hell in hand to hand.
All in all, a great game, with the Knights winning by a 1 point BTS. Thanks for designing and playing an interesting game Greg. What can I say but “Next time Greg, next time” and shake my fist?

Turn 1
- Knight worlds go first…
- Knights double move a Castellan unit on the right flank, moving into the forest in front of it(passing all dangerous terrain test)..
- Steel legion Artillery Battery on their left flank try's and activates and fails rolling a one….and so gets a BM for the troubles…
- Knights double move a Castellan unit on the right flank, into the open and targets the Hydras and manages to get three hits no saves… one dead unit and no AA cover..
- Steel legion Artillery Battery on their left flank(blue unit) open fires on the Castellan unit that's half the hill and half on it. manages to give it two BM’s.
- Knights double move a Knights Household on their right flank behind the hill that had the objective marker on it..
- Steel legion double moves a Mechanised Infantry Company on their left flank, into the forest not far from the Castellan unit ….
- Knights then try and move a Household knight unit up to support the Castellan unit in the forest right flank rolling a one, so do a normal move……
- Steel legion put the Sentinel Squadron on overwatch near the blitz marker..
- Knights double move a Knights Household on their right flank, up beside the Castellan units and they shoot the Mechanised Infantry Company, giving it a BM for the trouble…
- Steel legion double move the warhound pack and target the Castellan unit out in the open, kill one and add another DC to another and adding BM’s
- Knights double move a Knights Household on their right flank, and place it on the hill and target the warhounds, managing to strip the shields off one..
- Steel legion then move a Rough Rider Platoon over the hill to be closer to the objective marker on the other side…
- Knights then try and move a Castellan unit on the left flank rolling a one, and so move the unit behind the hill…
- Steel legion then double move the Reaver Titan and target the Knights Rough Rider on the objective marker on the hill, on their right flank. After the smoke cleared, the Knights Rough Rider was broken and flee back to their deployment zone into the forest…
- Knights then do a sustain fire order, with the Castellan unit that’s in the centre and it targets the Reaver Titan, stripping three shield off it…
- Steel legion then try and active the Regimental HQ and roll a one…….and move the unit up on the hill in front of the unit….
- Knights then try and put a Rough rider on overwatch and roll a one….
- Steel legion then double move a leman Russ company and target the Castellan unit, that the warhounds had shot at, after the smoke clears the unit is broken, with two of the W/E destroyed. the unit flees back to their deployment zone..
- Knights double move a Knights Household on their Left flank, and shoot the Reaver Titan managing to cause 2DC..
- Steel legion then try and active the Vulture Squadron and roll a one, leaving the unit were it is…
- Knights then place the Sentinel Squadron on over watch near the Blitz marker..
- Steel legion then try and active the Thunderbolt Squadron and roll a one…
- Knights then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target the Reaver Titan and do 2DC on the unit…
- Steel legion then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target Knights Thunderbolt Squadron, killing both units…
- Knights then bring on a second Thunderbolt Squadron and target the Thunderbolt Squadron, killing both units…

- Steel legion try to activate a Artillery Battery and rolls a one…
- Knights then try and active the Castellan unit in the forest in front of the Mechanised Infantry Company and rolls a one and so it fires at the Mechanised Infantry Company, killing 4 bases of infantry…
- Steel legion double moves a Mechanised Infantry Company on their right flank, and place it on the hill were the objective marker is(ignore aircraft they are no there)…
- Knights then place the Sentinel Squadron on over watch near the Blitz marker..
- Steel legion then move a leman Russ company and target the Household knight and manage to break the unit, and it flees back to it deployment zone…
- Knights then do a engage action with Castellan unit, behind the objective marker on the hill on their left flank and target the HQ Mechanised Infantry Company, after the smoke clears the Mechanised Infantry Company is broken and flees back to its deployment zone..
- Knights retain the turn and fire the Castellan unit in the centre at the Reaver Titan and manage to break the unit…
- Steel legion then move a leman Russ company and target the Castellan unit on the hill, that just broke the Mechanised Infantry and manage to put a BM’s on it.
- Knights then do a sustain fire order with a Knight household and target the Leman Russ company, that just shot the Castellan unit on the hill, managing to give it a BM
- Steel legion do a marshalling action on the Mechanised Infantry Company in the forest and after moving around manages to remove 3 BM’s…
- Knights then do a sustain fire order with a Knight household and target the Leman Russ company and give it a BM, for the trouble….
- Steel legion try to activate a Artillery Battery and rolls a one…
- Knights then activate Castellan unit on their right flank and target the Leman Russ company in front of the warhounds and manage to kill one Leman Russ and add BM’s
- Steel legion then active the Vulture Squadron and double move the unit up the right flank and target the Knight household unit behind the hill, killing a unit and adding three blast markers…
- Knights then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target the Reaver Titan and manage to do enough hits to kill the unit(BTS)
- Steel legion then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target a broken house hold unit and does enough hits to destroy the unit..
- Knights then do a sustain fire order with a Knight household and targets the warhounds, stripping shields and adding a BM’s…
- Steel legion then try and active a Rough rider unit and roll a one….
- Knight then do engage action with the Rough rider unit that's sitting on the objective in the centre and so target the Leman Russ company on the left flank, there was two rounds of CC&FF and the Rough riders won, but was broken due to loses and the Leman Russ company was broken and flees back to their deployment zone and the Rough riders feel back to the objective in the centre….
- Steel legion move their warhounds and move towards the centre to try and claim the objective marker and so target the knight household on the hill on their right flank, killing one of the W/E and adding BM’s.
- Knights don't rally the Rough rider squad,Steel legion didn't rally the Leman Russ company and Mechanised Infantry. The removing of blast markers went well for the Knights, not so the steel legion, three unit not removing BM’s (three ones in a roll)…..

Turn 3
- Knights go first
- Knights do a move order on the Castellan unit in the forest on the right flank and target the Mechanised Infantry Company, killing three stands of infantry and adding blast markers…
- Knights retain the turn and do a sustain fire order with the Castellan unit, between two hills on the right flank, and target the Leman Russ company in front, managing to do enough kills to break the unit…
- Steel Legion ,shoot the Knight house hold on the small hill in front of them, wiping the unit out…
- Knights do a engage action with Knights household behind the woods, that the Castellan unit in, they target the Mechanised Infantry Company and the Castellan unit is drag in, after the smoke clears the Mechanised Infantry Company is broken and flees back to it deployment zone..
- Steel legion shoot artillery at the rough rider unit in the forest, that has the objective marker in the centre deployment zone for the Knights. Breaking the unit, which flees through the forest..
- Knights then double move Castellan unit, so that it can shoot the warhounds managing to strip shields and add BM’s….
- Steel legion then do a sustain fire order on the Vulture Squadron and target the Knight household behind the hill on their right flank and manage to break the unit…
- Knights then activate a Knight House hold and shoot the Vulture Squadron and manage to give it a BM..
- Knight retain the turn and target the Warhound pack and manage to kill one of the W/E and so break the unit which flees back to it deployment zone…
- Steel legion then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target the sentinel squad near the Blitz marker in the Knight deployment zone..
- Knights then bring on a Thunderbolt Squadron and target the artillery unit on their right flank and manage to give it a BM….

QUESTIONS ABOUT KNIGHT LIST
1) I think the Custodian Household, should not be allowed to be built as a 6 strong unit. They should only be 3 strong and that’s the way they were in the SM/TL period, small support units, there to support the Knight households.
2) The Baron, why would you take him, even with the one’s I rolled in the AAR, I don't think I would spend the 175 points on him. I could have another unit on the table, which would do more for me. It may be worth taking him if he had a points drop and inspiring add.
3) I’m still worried about the list structure and there will be some interesting builds, that won’t be popcorn types. More play testing is need that’s for sure.
4) I’m still on the Fence about 2DC.
