Battle for Cloverleaf City

 

Battle for Cloverleaf City”, Jan. 24, 42,014. “The Tyranid attacks all over Sector 119 continue. Today they were thrown back by a scratch force from the Death Korps of Krieg, though Cloverleaf City itself was destroyed. The Tyranids continue to strengthen while we get weaker. Request immediate and massive reinforcements from Sector HQ.” Col. Heinz Steiner.

Another fun filled day of Epic Armageddon, except for the tragic bits J. Die rolls can be cruel! Greg & I (Britt) commanded 6000 points of Death Corps of Krieg against and equal force of slavering, blood thirsty Tyranids (Trent & Dan) set on despoiling the fair metropolis of Cloverleaf City. Greg’s detailed AAR will record the grim story, but essentially  turns 1 & 2 the Tyranids moved up, killing or pushing back all before them. They ambushed and wiped out 1 Quad battery and trapped and destroyed 2 Warhounds in the city. Gradually they moved into the city, but a valiant effort by Col. Knight threw them back there and on the IG left flank. A hard fought (3 rounds of combat) struggle between teleporting Lictors and a Quad battery in rocky terrain was eventually lost by the Korps, but the annals of the fight will long live it its history! Brave lads all!

At the end of turn 3 the bugs had had enough and began to scuttle back into the woodwork. Col. Knight had cleared most of Cloverleaf City south of the Pargos River and pushed the ‘Nids back to the south as well. To the north, things weren’t as decisive, but the few remaining Tyranid units weren’t positioned to cause much trouble and the Korps armoured transports loaded with infantry were headed for their blitz objective.

This was a fun game, with much enjoyment had by all. Die luck was about equally cruel to both sides, and the situation provided the players with a large number of tactical decisions answered with bold plans. Thanks for the drinks and chips Greg & Dan. Not quite Port & cigars, but close.

Turn 1

  • Death Korps of Krieg go first..
  • Artillery Support Company opens fire and targets the NEXUS SWARM and manages to put 4 blast markers on the units after killing a pile of bugs…
  • TYRANID SWARM then double moves to be closer to the objective sitting on the hill…
  • Macharius Heavy Tank double moves forward and sites behind the ridge line…
  • TYRANID SWARM then double moves down the right flank…..
  • The tyranids retain activation and double moves a TYRANID SWARM to support the other TYRANID SWARM near the objective marker on the hill.
  • Then a warhound pack double move up so that it was on the hill near the objective marker, and so fired at a TYRANID SWARM, killed a few bugs for a blast marker..
  • The tyranids double moves a TYRANID SWARM  into the city on their left flank…..
  • Death Korps Quad Launcher, then do a sustain fire order and target the TYRANID SWARM  in the city, kill a pile of bugs and placing a blast marker on it..
  • Tyranids then double moves a TYRANID SWARM  into the city on the right side of the river…
  • The second unit of Death Korps Quad Launcher, then do a sustain fire order and target the TYRANID SWARM  in the city. Some one the other battery targeted, killed a pile of bugs and placing a blast marker on it..
  • Tyranids then double moves a TYRANID SWARM on their left flank, so that it was in front of the objective marker and behind the hill.
  • Then a warhound pack double move up so that it could shoot the TYRANID SWARM, in the city that was shot at earlier by the Quad launchers, and wipe the unit out…
  • Tyranids then double move the EXOCRINE SWARM and shoot the warhound pack on the hill near the objective marker and only manage to strip the shields off and place a blast marker off…
  • The tyranids retain activation and double moves HIERODULE BIO-TITAN and shoots the warhound unit on the hill and adds another blast marker…
  • Macharius Heavy Tank double moves forward and targets the TYRANID SWARM in the city on their left flank, killing bugs but only adding one blast marker.
  • NEXUS SWARM then double moves and shoots the warhound pack in the city and manages to strip the shields off and add blast markers…
  • Death Korps Regimental HQ double moves into the city and deploys the troops into cover….
  • Death Korps retain the activation and double move the Macharius Heavy Tank unit on the right flank and shoot the TYRANID SWARM  that it can see behind the hill on that flank…
  • The tyranids double moves HIERODULE BIO-TITAN and shoots the warhound unit in the city and adds another blast marker…
  • Death Korps Death Rider Company does a engage action, against HIERODULE BIO-TITAN and this manages to drag the other two swams close by into the combat, this also drags the warhounds in to. after the smoke clears the the Tyranids win the combat by 1….so the Death Rider Company and warhound unit breaks and one flees to the woods it came from and the other back towards the deployment zone…
  • The tyranids double moves HIERODULE BIO-TITAN and shoots the Death Korps Regimental HQ, killing one base and adding a blast marker..
  • Death Korps try and active a Macharius Heavy Tank unit and fail the activation rolling a 1(yes forgot the SC reroll here) and so the unit moves.
  • The tyranids then double move a HIEROPHANT BIO-TITAN into the city, so that it could shoot the Death Korps Regimental HQ, killing 5 stands of infantry….
  • Death Korps then fire the mortar off the Gorgon Siege Transporter and target the TYRANID SWARM  behind the hill near the objective marker on their right flank, killing more bugs in the unit…..
  • Death Korps Infantry Company then double moves towards the broken warhounds to set its self up for next turn..
  • Death Korps Infantry Company then march moves towards the stream on the left flank and this will allow to set its self up for next turn…
  • Death Korps rally the warhounds, but not the Death Rider Company, both sides remove all blast markers….

Turn 2

  • Hive Fleet Onachus Tyranids go first
  • LICTOR SWARM are teleported in first photo….no blast markers
  • LICTOR SWARM goes first and does Close combat with the Death Korps Quad Launcher, when the dust cleared the Quad Launcher were gone.
  • Death Korps move the warhounds in the city, to face the HIERODULE BIO-TITAN and shoot the titian and manage to cause 2DC and 3 blast markers all up.
  • Death Korps Quad Launcher target the HIERODULE BIO-TITAN, placing a blast marker on it and cause the unit to break and flee back to the deployment zone…
  • Tyranids then put a TYRANID SWARM on over watch…….
  • Death Korps Quad Launcher fire on the LICTOR SWARM, giving it a blast marker and breaking the unit……which flees into the city….
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with a TYRANID SWARM and do a CC on the Macharius Heavy Tank unit on the hill on their right flank, guns blazing and claws slashing and the Macharius Heavy Tank unit wins the combat, breaking the TYRANID SWARM and it flees back towards it deployment zone.
  • Macharius Heavy Tank unit try's to activate and fails(had use the SC roll already) and so shoots the TYRANID SWARM behind the hill, right flank, that it can see a few units off and shoots giving it some blast markers. After killing some bugs…..
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with a TYRANID SWARM and do a CC on the Macharius Heavy Tank unit on the hill on their right flank, guns blazing and claws slashing and the Macharius Heavy Tank unit wins the combat, breaking the TYRANID SWARM and it flees back towards it deployment zone( yes it happen again…)
  • Macharius Heavy Tank unit double moves, on the right flank to get around the hill to shoot the TYRANID SWARM and manages to kill some bugs and add blast marker….
  • Tyranids then do a sustain fire order with the EXOCRINE SWARM and target the Macharius Heavy Tank unit on the hill in front of them…doing a DC and giving the unit two blast markers…
  • Tyranids then retain the turn and move a TYRANID SWARM into CC with the Death Korps Regimental HQ, lots of checking and the Macharius Heavy Tank unit can give support to the cause, after the smoke clears the TYRANID SWARM lose the CC and flees back. The Death Korps Regimental HQ take off its dead and adds 7 blast markers……
  • Macharius Heavy Tank unit try's to activate and fails(had use the SC roll already) on the left flank in the city….
  • Tyranids then do a march move down their right flank to get into the forest in the Death Korps deployment zone…
  • Tyranids then retain the turn and double move the HIEROPHANT BIO-TITAN and target the Warhounds in the city and manage to wipe the unit out.
  • Death Korps Regimental HQ does a marshalling action and removes 5 blast markers…
  • NEXUS SWARM then does a marshalling action and doesn't shoot….
  • (tyranids have no more activations) Artillery Support Company fails to activate and so shoots the EXOCRINE SWARM on the hill in front of it, doing a blast marker…
  • Then the warhounds double move up and shoot the broken swam it can see, and manage to kill it out right….
  • Death Korps Infantry Company then does a engage action, against the TYRANID SWARM in the forest behind it and its does a FF. After the smoke clears the forest is cleared of bugs…
  • Death Korps Infantry Company then march moves towards the objective on the hill on the left flank…
  • All units are rallied and blast markers are removed.

  • LICTOR SWARM are teleported in first photo….no blast markers
  • Death Korps Quad Launcher target the LICTOR SWARM and kill two and give the unit 3 blast markers all up.
  • Death Korps retain the turn and use the Macharius Heavy Tank unit and shoot the LICTOR SWARM, killing another and breaking the unit and so it flees into the city..
  • Tyranids then double move the HIEROPHANT BIO-TITAN so that it can shoot the Macharius Heavy Tank unit on the right side of the river, giving it a couple of blast markers….
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with the other LICTOR SWARM and do CC with the Death Korps Quad Launcher, after three rounds of combat , the LICTOR SWARM wins….two rounds of tired combat…..
  • The warhound unit double moves up and targets the EXOCRINE SWARM, giving the unit a blast marker…
  • Death Korps retain the turn and use the Macharius Heavy Tank unit and shoot the tyranid swam on the left flank in front of it, killing some low life bugs and giving it a blast marker….
  • Tyranids then do a engage action with a tyranid swam and CC the warhound unit, this drag in the EXOCRINE SWARM, checking the other Death Korps shows that the Macharius Heavy Tank unit and Death Korps Infantry Company are in range to give support to the unit….after the smoke clears the tyranid swam is wiped and the EXOCRINE SWARM is down to one AV, the warhounds lose a warhound and break after winning the combat….
  • Tyranids double move the NEXUS SWARM and targets the Macharius Heavy Tank unit in front of it… and manages to do DC and that was it…..
  • Death Korps Infantry Company does a engage action and FF the HIEROPHANT BIO-TITAN, after the smoke clears the HIEROPHANT BIO-TITAN is broken and has taken 3DC and Death Korps Infantry Company takes a 1DC on the Gorgon Siege Transporter…….
