FIRST NAW GAME

Hi Everyone,

 

This week we did our first N@W game, the points was 1100pts. There are couple of things first up, 1) bases sizes are differant, then want they use in N@W and 2) the figures are not Men at war figures.

So bases sizes are

 

25mmx32mm for infantry

 

50mmx32mm for cavalry and Artillery.

 

32mmx50mm for all commanders.

 

 

The following is the break down of the forces, Well it will be the following:

Greg, Trent, & I had our first game of “Napoleon at War” 15mm Napoleonics Rules. More of a playtest/learn-the –rules game than anything else. Trent commanded the Russians, Britt the French, and Greg GM’d and taught us the rules. Thanks Greg!

   The terrain was essentially a “T” road junction bisecting the battlefield with numerous woods and rolling hills. There were no cavalry present, but the French had 6 units of infantry and a Medium Battery or Artillery while the Russians had more infantry and a battery of Heavy Artillery as well.

   Both sides set up along the battlefield, placing the French medium guns and Russian Heavies on the large hills on the west flank. The infantry was set up in an east-west line, though I deployed one unit of Infantry, my ‘reserve’ in a central wood.

   The artillery duel was rather one sided, the French guns being blasted off its hill. On the east flank, numerous firefights developed and a Russian charge carried the day, breaking a unit of French. This see-sawed back and forth until casualties eventually routed a Russian unit and allowed the French there room to deploy in attack column. This ‘rolled-up’ another Russian unit and the east Flank was secured for the French.

   In the far west, one unit of French holds up 2 of the Russians, but in the face of the Russian artillery, couldn’t hope for a breakthrough. The ‘French Reserve’ in the woods dares not leave it as to do so would mean certain death!

   A fight develops for the central woods. Some Russians are routed, but the French again are held at bay by the Russian Medium guns. Night closes on the battlefield with the Russians taking more serious losses, but the battle inconclusive.
